i was dx'd with a disc bulge at L4/L5 and a herniation at L5/S1 after a work injury about 5 years ago. at the time, i was given intense physical therapy and recovered with minimal residual symptoms. then about 7 months ago, i was hit by a car while riding my bike. i didn't have much back pain then. i did have some noticeable paraspinal tightness on the right side (the side i was hit on), but my main complaint at that time was my shoulder. the theory is that i tore some cartilage surrounding my shoulder joint. i went back to pt and it was recommended that i begin some yoga to help strengthen my core (bad posture) and my shoulder. i went to yoga once a week for about 3 months when i developed increasing lower back pain. i saw my doctor and he took me off of work on a 7 week leave. during this time i saw a pt and then also began seeing a chiropracter. i had some improvement after i began to see the chiro. i have been back at work for a month (heavy lifting involved in my work) and i have now developed tingling in my legs. this happens when i am walking and when i look down. i am so frustrated with my lack of progress. i feel like despite pt and chiro, sometimes 5 appointments in a week i am getting nowhere. i spend so much time in therapy, or traveling to or from it. i am spending a fortune on copays. and all for nothing! i am 30 years old. currently, i cannot run, swim, do yoga, or ride my bike. i cannot do much for house chores, or sit for too long, walk for too long, or stand for too long. i am worried that i am never going to get back my ability to do these things. i am starting to feel very hopeless. i don't know what to do next. do i try pilates? acupuncture? get an mri? any advice, encouragement or information would be appreciated.
