Default New Tool Eases Lifting and Reduces Back Pain

A new innovative hand tool that assists in lifting and moving heavy loads has been announced by LeverTech. Users just lean or shift their weight to lift and move objects. Simple mechanical principles double lifting power while reducing back stress and fatigue. Use it to garden, move furniture, shovel heavy ice and snow, or to control heavy tools in DIY projects. Users shovel using legs and hips with less arm strength, making Leanlever especially useful for people needing ergonomic or adaptive tools.

This video shows how it works.

Their press release says "Ergonomic analysis and an international consumer product testing laboratory confirmed Leanlever's capabilities. Jerry Behar of Levertech says, “The secret is its fulcrum that creates leverage and provides the ability to lift with core body muscles and the user's weight and legs, while it supports the object”. Core body muscles and quadriceps are much stronger and fatigue less than smaller hand, arm, and back muscles. The device also prevents tipping by controlling and stabilizing the load during lifting. Dumping the load is easy with an innovative swivel mechanism. These features make Leanlever useful to everyone, especially those with limited strength, arthritis, or who just want to be independent."

Anybody tried one or seen anything similar?

I developed this device after I hurt my back gardening. I am an independent type of person, like to do everything myself, and despised the sharp pain when I would move to lift anything. What an eye opening experience. Having back pain was much worse than I previously thought. Brushing teeth, putting dishes in the dishwasher, playing with kids, etc... However, I started a job and needed to finish it (2 yards of soil was on my driveway) and a contractor wanted $350 to do the work. I am a mechanical engineer so I made the device, it worked great, and my back got better over time. A long time (months). It seems once you hit forty it takes much longer to heal (anything). A friend saw me use it and required me to sell it. I did a patent search, and then gave it to a lawyer for patenting. When showed at INPEX, people loved it especially for shoveling. If anyone has questions, please post them.

    Jerry,

    Welcome to the forum.

Seems like a great device that you invented - like many truly great devices, it's the simplicity that helps to make it such a good idea.

Please do share any stories about your back pain as well and what you tried, what you found to work.

    All the Best

    Great invention.

And for me, it is also important to balance the weight when lifting things. You have to make sure that the loads you are carrying are enough to carry it through your body weight. Proper lifting and proper procedure of lifting.

What the device does is balance and lock the load in place when you lift. There is a hinge on top that only rotates up or down and the bottom of the bar is square aluminum tubing preventing rotation or tipping. I first tried it with a rounded bar but it did not work to well. Also, there is a foot peddle on the bottom that does not let the bar turn while you are lifting. After the load is raised, you take your foot off the foot peddle, the bar can then twist which allows the hinge to rotate in the other direction and let the load drop into the wheelbarrow. This is how I can lift with one hand. If allowed on this website I can offer coupon codes. As you can tell, I like it (slightly biased). My biggest problem that the device does not help me do is lift my kids. Going shopping I would lift each of them in the air. I won't take a chance anymore, and they are disappointed. I am much more risk averse and do not want to be incapacitated again. Two things have helped a lot. Pilates machine and crunches,sit-ups, leg lifts at night while watching TV. It is easy, low cost, takes up no additional time and I do not have to go anywhere to do it. Now two other friends do the same and are not having back trouble. I was told that bouncing on a large Yoga ball helps but it did not help me. Thanks.

Jerry, please do go ahead and offer some coupon codes.

I know of other folks who've had back pain and who like their crunches and sit-ups.
It is an easy solution and seems to work for quite a few folks.

Great. I had to confirm with my partners. Here is a 40% off coupon code: "backpainforums" . Also, I can send out a report from a consumer product testing group if you email me or give me an email to send it. The testing company did not allow me to use their name (hint is Latin for truth) but I paid for the report so I can send it out. We wanted to confirm safety, have something for skeptical people (I am one as well, which is why I like to be independent), and make sure it could hold up to weather. If you look closely in the videos, the first one I made was painted wood. Now they are anodized tubular aluminum with stainless steel parts where it is stressed. Soon we will have a DRTV campaign going. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wow this is an awesome invention! Remember to your body the rest it deserves. You should also monitor your posture because most people suffering from back pain have a very bad posture. It is best to consult your doctor to get an appropriate diagnosis and treat the condition immediately.
If you have lower back & leg pain you might have Sciatica - find more information about sciatica treatment.
