Default Spinal Stenosis and Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal stenosis occurs when the spinal canal narrows and compresses the spinal cord and nerves. Undue pressure on the nerves can cause severe pain. The narrowing is usually brought on by the occurrence of spinal disc degeneration, itself a natural process of aging. Spinal Stenosis can also be caused by disc herniation, osteoporosis or a tumor. There are cases in which Spinal Stenosis is a congenital condition to varying degrees.

When Spinal Stenosis is caused by disc degeneration or herniation, we recommend non-surgical Spinal Decompression. It has a high success rate.

    Hi Ron

Thanks for the post. Could you say more about what "Spinal Decompression" is, what's involved, how it works, timescales etc - this would be really useful

Spinal Decompression involves axial traction being applied to the spine, where a vaccum is created, which can suck a minor disc bulge or herniation back into the annular ring of the disc. (Boyle's Law stating that temperature, pressure and volume being direcly proportional to each other. As the body temperature will remain constant, traction increases the volume of the disc space, so pressure must decrease, reducing the herniation).

The disc material has poor blood supply, and nutrients are provided by motion, so some spinal decompression can vary the traction force so that a slight pumping motion is made. Time, traction force and frquency of treatments vary according to the patient.
