Here's a great site for assessing any medical procedure - ethicaldoctor.org

They basically review all the published reports and papers on a given procedure and based on the type of research, including how objective it is and how randomised it is, they put it in a star rating.

Their overall IDET rating, after reviewing 32 papers on IDET is just 2 stars (with 5 stars being the best indicator of success). In other words to use their explanation the published research has "POOR Predictive Value for success of procedure"

That's not to say IDET isn't effective - just the research so far isn't a very good indicator of the effectiveness.
