Low back pain is a very common phenomenon among the adult population, and also the third commonest reason for missed work in the US and the UK. But it is not inevitable, as many people think. Here are some more ways to avoid it altogether, apart from exercise and weight maintenance.
* Did you know weak stomach muscles actually put more pressure on your back? Well, here is another reason to work on your abs!
* High heels push the body forward. To compensate people tend to lean forward and this puts pressure on the spine. If you must wear them, use heel inserts to reduce stress.
* When lifting weight bend your knees, keep feet apart at shoulder width, keep your back straight and let your thigh muscles do all the work. You'll avoid a very common cause of back pain.
* Sleep on a medium firm mattress - not too soft, not too hard - that does not disturb the body's natural curves. Sleep on your side with knees bent and a cushion between them to lessen stress on your back.
These simple steps will go a long way to help you avoid low back pain.
