Thread: Sciatica And Lifestyle

  1. Sciatica And Lifestyle

When you have nagging pain starting in the lower back regions and radiating down the buttocks and back of the legs, you've probably got sciatica. These are the symptom of underlying conditions like spinal stenosis, herniated discs or degenerative disc disease.

When the acute condition subsides, you will be advised to make some lifestyle changes. This is because lifestyle sometimes plays an important role in developing these conditions. Here is a look at some of them --

Posture - These days many of us spend hours every day at a work table, hunching over a computer. This disturbs the natural alignment of the spine. A chiropractor can realign the spine and relieve your pain, advise you about the correct postures to assume, and do stretch exercises.

Sedentary lifestyle - This is another major cause of sciatica. Lack of exercise causes weight gain and this extra weight puts pressure on the back. A proper exercise regimen will put you back in shape.

Eating right - Watching what you eat is another way to control your body weight. Cutting out on junk food and soft drinks will help maintain a normal body weight.
