When you have nagging pain starting in the lower back regions and radiating down the buttocks and back of the legs, you've probably got sciatica. These are the symptom of underlying conditions like spinal stenosis, herniated discs or degenerative disc disease.
When the acute condition subsides, you will be advised to make some lifestyle changes. This is because lifestyle sometimes plays an important role in developing these conditions. Here is a look at some of them --
Posture - These days many of us spend hours every day at a work table, hunching over a computer. This disturbs the natural alignment of the spine. A chiropractor can realign the spine and relieve your pain, advise you about the correct postures to assume, and do stretch exercises.
Sedentary lifestyle - This is another major cause of sciatica. Lack of exercise causes weight gain and this extra weight puts pressure on the back. A proper exercise regimen will put you back in shape.
Eating right - Watching what you eat is another way to control your body weight. Cutting out on junk food and soft drinks will help maintain a normal body weight.
A few common causes of sciatica: herniated disks, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis (vertebra slips forward over another), trauma (wrecks, falls), piriformis syndrome (hard to diagnose & can't be seen on MRI) and tumors.
Before diagnosing oneself or beginning any exercise regimen, one should always consult their doctor first. Tests should be done to confirm the diagnosis and the doctor should approve any exercises before they're begun, as you could be hurting yourself even more.
nice post thanks i had this problem so consulted a chiropractor the first step is assessing your body to find the cause of your problem with a thorough examination including physical, orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic tests.if you encounter any problems with these poses, you should consult an expert.
I've had 2 Neurosurgeons tell me that Chiropractic is extremely dangerous for spinal patients. Both told me that by going to a chiropractor a spinal patient puts themselves in danger of paralysis and/or a wheelchair. They did expound on this but space is limited here. I will say that they said chiropractors are not fully trained in the central nervous system. Also, this is not the place to be advertising YOUR Chiropractic business. Why not take it elsewhere.
