Dr. Oz has this thing he always talks about where he says "just ten." Meaning that losing just 10 lbs make a big difference for your overall health (I think he is mostly referring to heart health). But I have found that just losing that 10 has been tremendous! Somewhere once I read about how the affect of belly fat puts two or three times that amount of lbs on the discs in your back because of the abnormal curve it causes your spine to go in to!
Hi fellow you are quite right that if we choose the right exercise for our health and do that in proper way and in right direction's than we can be fit and healthy forever... I like to have cardio and specially the swimming.....
While they may not be exercises in the traditional sense, I think one of the first two items that people with mechanical low back pain should do is learn about neutral spine positions and abdominal bracing.
This has done wonders for me and most of my clients with mechanical low back pain.
Being able to find those positions where the spine is less vulnerable and then being able to engage the core to hold yourself there, does wonders for dropping, if not eliminating the pain, discomfort and dysfunction that often follows low back issues.

to select suitable exercise but this thread provide all the relevant information.
I am surprised that no one has made a distinction between exercising and stretching. Perhaps it is a fine line but I think there is a difference between the two terms. In my mind the objective of exercising is to strengthen a part of the body, while stretching is intended to increase the range of motion or flexibility of the body. One thing for sure, both increase the blood flow to specific areas and without fresh oxygenated blood getting to damaged or overworked tissues, the body has a hard time healing itself.

Only thing which I wan to suggest is consult your doctor before starting any of exercises for your back pain.
For people suffering from sciatica, best rest is not the best way to alleviate the sciatica pain. It will just worsen your condition. Sciatica pain is best treated with regular exercise to strengthen the back and abdominal muscles. It also provides more support for the torso. However, it is best to consult your doctor prior to doing any exercise.
