Yoga To Cure Lower Back Pain
Did you know yoga can greatly relieve your chronic lower back pain? Two particular 'asana's (yogic postures) - the Salavasana and the Bhujangasana - can magically reduce your distress by strengthening the core back muscles and thereby reducing pressure on your spine.
Both asanas involve lying face down (turned to one side) on a yoga mat with hands placed inertly by your side.
In Bhujangasana you slowly and smoothly raise your torso, waist upwards, as high as you can go. Hold there for a few seconds (with practice you can increase this time span and the height you raise your torso) before lowering yourself back to the mat. Remember to use your back muscles rather than your hands to lift yourself up.
In Salavasana you keep your torso on the mat but lift your legs off it while keeping the knees locked. You could try one leg at a time to start with. Lower to the mat in similar fashion.
Of course, it is advisable that you perform these asanas under the watchful eyes of a certified yoga professional.
